When Kwame Nkrumah wrote in his 1965 book that “THE neo-colonialism of today represents imperialism in its final and perhaps its most dangerous stage,” he clearly foresaw today’s Nigeria and Kenya – states which are in theory, independent and have all the outward trappings of international sovereignty, but in reality, their economic systems and political policies are directed from outside. But he may well have also foreseen the Tinubu and William Ruto’s of 2023, presidents with dubious pasts who are propped up by Europeans and held hostage in service of foreign interests.

But if there was any doubt about the extent of the ‘danger’ Nkrumah was referring to, it is the treachery of Kenya’s Ruto against Africa that is making it abundantly clear. This man is perhaps the biggest political swindle of Africa’s recent history, a neocolonial puppet masquerading as a pan-African to advance imperial interests across Africa. How is that so? One might have asked a year ago, but not today. It is now as clear as day, that Ruto is so deeply wired into the Imperial Western architecture, and is at the forefront of advancing Western interests in Africa.

Ruto, of course, is not the first, and he certainly won’t be the last. But what makes Ruto particularly dangerous, and all the more reason why we must expose the true face behind the various masks and camouflages of his traitorous imposture, is his adept ability to cater to the gallery of pan-African sentiment, causing many to fall for his swindle. If he is not flattering Uganda’s Museveni as the father of the region, he is holding hands with Rwanda’s Kagame and sheepishly smiling in a public show of pan-African camaraderie, or flattering Eritrea’s Isaias Afwerki for his pan-African credentials, or as of late, donning a Kaunda suit to complete his masquerade as a Pan African.

William Ruto Talks Right and walks left

Ruto in Kaunda suits reminds me of Congo’s Mobutu who tried to mask his puppetry behind Pan-Africanism by wearing animal prints and changing Congo’s name to Zaire to emphasize African identity when all the while he was in bed with the US/Belgium as his brain trusts and order-givers. It is the same with William Ruto without the mask – a Western Puppet.

Who else is a man who dons a Kaunda suit during trips to Djibouti or Uganda to project a Pan-African image, then switches to Western-style suits when in New York? What do you call a man who today urges African leaders to ditch the dollar, seemingly supporting a Pan-African single currency, and tomorrow is negotiating deals with IMF and World Bank, the primary enablers of dollar hegemony?

In July, he went to the Pan-African Parliament Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, and spoke passionately about Africa’s shared destiny and the imperative to break free from Western influence, drawing a standing ovation from the audience. But hardly a month later, he was calling for the reinstatement of a Western-backed puppet president in Niger.

On the same occasion, he called out the mistreatment of African leaders by Europeans, demanding that they be respected on the global stage. Then the other day, he went to the UN General Assembly, and cozied up to Zelensky who previously dismissed an African peace mission as a ‘waste of his time’. The same William Ruto is passionately standing with Ukraine against Russia, eloquently emphasizing a rules-based order, but not with Niger, an African country, against French occupation.

During the 5th Mid-Year AU Meeting in July, he eloquently asserted that “The Pan-African movement has always been about sovereignty and agency.” Yet, the other day at the UN General Assembly, he was in closed-door meetings with US leaders to complete plans to dispatch Kenyan soldiers to violate Haiti’s sovereignty and undermine its agency on behalf of the US. On the same AU occasion, he spoke of Pan-African transformation through self-reliance.  But, the other day, only a little more than one month later, he offered to outsource Mombasa ports for grain imports from Ukraine instead of encouraging grain production in Kenya.

The same Ruto previously spoke so glowingly of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), only to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the EU days later, a direct contravention of the AfCFTA agreement, and one might add, a sabotage of it. It is in that same spirit of hypocrisy and sabotage, that he went to the recent UN General Assembly and shamelessly lied that there is a ‘food shortage in East Africa, when all the while, he is blocking excess milk, eggs, bananas, etc., from neighboring Uganda.

Meddling all over Africa

In his talking right and walking left, William Ruto is poking his nose to meddle everywhere in Africa on behalf of the West. But what is most annoying is that he goes speaking, and even appearing to act, on behalf of Africa. Remember in July this year, hardly one year as a president of Kenya, and indeed, with the least experience of any leader in the region, he went northward to Sudan posturing as a peace mediator. Fortunately, the Sudanese saw through his mask and rejected his nonsense.

Last month, he poked his nose into West African affairs, posturing to speak for the AU to undercut the struggle of Nigeriens seeking to break free from French imperialism by calling on the reinstatement of the deposed French puppet as president. “We in the AU,” he said. Who is this “we”? Who appointed him to speak for the rest? How come he was the only African leader from a non-Francophone African country to make such a call?

Yesterday, he poked his nose into the Horn of Africa, posting a picture of the US Secretary of State and himself, and saying Kenya and the United States of America will work together to foster sustainable peace in the Horn of Africa”. What does he mean? Who invited him? Why would anybody? Is Kenya in the Horn of Africa? This is how ridiculous, how treacherous Ruto has become. What kind of leader postures to that extent?

Ruto is dangerous and if I were, for example, Eritrea’s Afwerki, Uganda’s Museveni, Rwanda’s Kagame, or indeed an African leader whom the West is critical of, I’d be careful when visiting Kenya or even shaking Ruto’s hands! With recent credible reports suggesting that the UK’s MI6 and the US’s CIA are plotting to eliminate African leaders seen as aligned with Russia, one cannot rule out their weaponizing puppets like Ruto to do their bidding. Africans must start calling out Ruto, if only to expose the neocolonial puppet behind the mask masquerading as a pan-African.

This is best article that shows Ruto’s true character. He’s never for the people but his own interests of being power hungry.

      • SK Mwaura

This is a shameful radical left armchair commentary by a Ruto hater that the author doesn’t understand.
Much as we’re torn between kicking France out of Niger and other African countries, so are we in encouraging coups de’tat to achieve that goal! The AU says no to coups and so do all democratic governments

This is the most ignorant write up.

          • Kenya is not having a shortage of milk, eggs and bananas. If we wanted we would also produce so much of the same. Our prices are higher than those of imported milk and eggs because we value our farmers. Next time make use of a Swahili proverb that says: Mgalla muue na haki umpe. Otherwise thank you for triggering a Pan-African debate.

HE (Dr.) William S. Ruto is my president. I don’t agree with many things he’s doing, ask any ordinary Kenyan at the moment including those who voted for him. But we really wish, nay, will him to succeed. He inherited the reigns of power at a difficult moment for our country. Pushing a Pan-Africanist agenda on the world stage is a complex path to navigate, especially when you have your own country’s aspirations to achieve.

There are many things, as you have pointed out, that paint the picture of a hypocrite, a man adept at doublespeak. But that’s as far as it goes for me.

Anyone who sees Russia, under it’s current leadership, as a worthy friend of Africa is daydreaming. Zelensky may be no saint, but the atrocities that Russia commits on the world stage are outrageous. Let alone the brutality of its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. Freedom loving and souveign Nations ought to call out the Russians and Putin, and give Zelensky’s Ukraine every support they need.

Moron, there is nothing good about dictators working for former colonial masters. Ruto is a conman who has fooled many people like you but will not fool all people all the time.

          Are you ok?

      • This is a very insightful article on the standing of Ruto as a fake Pan- Africanist. First of all I agree to the extent whereby he seems to be bidding the European Market Trade deals more that the African Market Free Trade deals. On the rest of the points you have raised, they can only be judged politically. I’m so sorry to inform you, coming from Kenya where politics has become survival of the fittest you cannot judge Ruto on becoming a Pan Africanist without viewing the Hyena & Vultures fight he has gone through to be the winner. What you are describing as his African & Foreign policy is just child’s play to him. Your observation of his dressing & flip flopping of policies is a well planned gimmick. If you understand him well, he is a politician first before you classify him as a Statesman or a Pan Africanist or a puppet of the west. All the labels you throw to him, he likes. It means his PR has done an excellent job. It means he has navigated all the African, Global & Regional political views and is serving each audience the dish they want. You’re trying to force him to take a stand on all issues or a certain position like grandstanding. Ruto is a political chameleon. When fashioned through the unpredictable & robust democracy that the Kenyan political environment is, to graduate into the international stage, they become a slippery fishy creature with the abilities to change colours to suite whichever position is trending on the day. Kenya has no foreign policy. What we have is a jauggernaut of bilateral & multilateral, multilayered trade deals that benefit the elite. What you’re seeing is a Wheeler dealer. A hustler in their element. Making deals & looking for the highest bidders. All those speeches you seek to opiniate in terms of policy are just pitches to donors. The UN is a hall of alleged political prostitutes talking to each seeking to pitch to the Bretton Woods institutions for funding. As much as you call him a hypocrite to Pan Africanism, this political, this notion of African Unity of nations that have tribal regions & tribal leaders who cannot agree is an ill-timed policy. The fact that every African leader to acceed & maintain their power must create an atmosphere of us vs. Them in terms of tribal & regional groupings is the anathema to Pan Africanism. Ruto’s charm offensive is not based on anything but global positioning. And the fact he’s getting attention, both friend of foe, it means he’s doing it right. I predict with political accuracy you’ll be back with another article of how he’s the darling to the East, China & Russia.

He has always been a master of doublespeak. He brought class and religious differences to Kenyan politics just to win an election without minding the seed of hatred it created. He always talks big but on the ground zero delivery. If things don’t change now he is going to be the worst president ever in Kenya.

      • osibisa

Ati he won, not close! the same west imposed him on Kenyans. Just the perfect stooge – naive, annoyingly treacherous n easily manipulated by his masters to do the job of shackling Africa in deeper neocolonialism.

    • Governor mugambi

This article has clearly exposed Ruto who purport to be “African seviour”.NO one has accorded him a crown to speak on behalf of Africans. His behaviors are revealing slowly how harmful and dangerous he is to the African economic growth.
It’s time to deter this western puppet.

    • Duncan

What is shocking but not surprising is how the US can deliberately forget in broad daylight that Ruto was INDICTED at the ICC for the worst crimes on earth – mass murder, rape and more from the PEV in Kenya, after the 2007 elections. That his case is OPEN and only suspended because of disappearance and bribery of witnesses. The extent to which US selfishness makes them forget their core principles of justice and freedom as they celebrate Ruto. In doing so, they kick in the teeth and dance on the graves of Ruto’s PEV 1000s of victims. Ruto is in power without legitimacy. The opposition has posted on Twitter alleged whistleblower figures pointing how Ruto got a mere 41% and IMPOSED himself on majority 57% Kenyans. It is not surprising his shenanigans to bend all over for the western powers to shore up support against the domestic onslaught and growing rejection from more Kenyans. Such a shame. An unprincipled empty fraud.

    • Geoffrey

Ruto lies like he was born to!, Him and his wife misuse public coffers to purpetuate uninteresting theocracy by inviting Divorced beat up Benny Hinn to force all Kenyans to start speaking in tongues and seek blessings only available in heaven after dying.
He needs to be exposed. The west have denied Raila presidency for their ethnocentrism puppets

    • Prov 22:7: “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is slave of the lender.”

China, in 1949, made a conscious and determined decision to wipe out its colonial experience, dubbed the Century of Humiliation. Today, it is the global standard of economic salvation. Lifting 800 million of it’s people out of poverty. It could only to that by first leveraging it’s greatest resource, that is, it people, with genuine bottom up, and therefore homegrown policies. Pandering to capitalism, which cannot survive without imperialism, has not worked for Africa, in the past sixty years. I believe a genuine Pan Africanism will work.

I remember one time, Ruto’s master teacher of politics of destruction, the late president Moi being reported in some western media as telling western powers that “What I say in public is for public consumption, and do not worry about it because I will always tell me what you want and I do it regardless of what I say in public”. This is exactly what Ruto is doing. He is the most dangerous leader in Africa today.

  2. Isaac Ghebreiesus

you have raised some interesting points , but a little bit early to take a stand …..remains to be seen.
    anyway thanks for sharing!

    • Tc

You can believe us, Kenyans, and it is true.. this man,Ruto, is extremely corrupt, two faced and cut throat. He has poisoned the politics in Kenya and polarized the country… do not believe what you see without proper research.

      • Michael

What is corruption in your understanding? Do you have facts or just being emotional about everything and nothing in particular?

    • Morrison

We in Kenya know him so very well, indeed he is a western puppet….. very dangerous!

      • Vincent Mokinu

C’mon now, a treacherous cunning liar when he needs to be? yeah, but a Western puppet? no way

        • Tega

The best article ever, giving a vivid description of Ruto as a western puppet to blackmail Africans.

      • We need to desplay the true picture of our self, as leaders double mouth speak erodes faith and plunks our nation into deep neocolonialism, no western country has African at heart, our leaders self interest fuels this preposition with described character as dengerious as described. Leadership is wisdom and this needs to be emulated from the best of our own eg Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Uhuru Kenyatta, Kwame Khuluma, julious Nyerere etc

      • Mak'Owuor

This is the deal Kenya has ever had.

Total crap. To shallow an argument. You kust picked weak points to support your biasnesss and apparent hatered towards the man since your arguments has no basis. I wonder what is your grudge with WSR besides this excuses your are trying to make.

    • My Name

Why not counter his facts with your own rather than labeling his article as crap?

      • Mike

That would be lending credence to the crap.

    • Richard

You’re speaking from a sycophantic point of view..this is a very valid critique. Nobody has a grudge with your demigod, he’s just being called out for being two faced. Wake up and smell the coffee!

    • John

Total crap???no please, I’d really want you to counter this with your own facts/observation the we see from there…the man just highlighted some facts

      • Mike

I voted for this negro, but he has disappointed me so much. He is a master of double speech, surrounded by cocoon of corrupt individuals

    • Vincent

You should know that Foreign Policy doesn’t allow a President of a particular state to generalize other states in his speech, don’t you?

      • Apat

Western puppet, must be called out. I hate him passionately!

    • Semekete

It’s you who os crap show us any positive about your blindly beloved WSR.

He has laid out his case. Counter it with facts instead of a plain dismissal. We are Kenyans and we can see through WSR’s charade and lies.

What s cheap argument! Are the alphabets that you are using African?

    • HARUNANY

Kindly issue your strong points herein to counter the aforementioned weak ones.Proceed.

  4. Lee Garises

Indeed, I am among those initially impressed with his speeches, only to find that they were mere choreographed impressions of what he knew we wanted to hear.

In recent weeks, the layers are peeling off and I’m grossly disappointed to find history repeating itself in Ruto.

To concur with your most welcome writings, it was in the moment Ruto condemned Nigerien coup leaders, that I realized I had been duped to admire a façade. For no African on good conscience can ever be uneasy with the prospect of fellow Africans freeing themselves from colonial parasites like France.

  5. Michael omondi

Ruto should know that you can’t make everyone happy. The absence of museveni and other African leaders in the recent climate summit was not a coincidence.

    • B O ONGONGE

According to this writer, you are only right if you speak Russia. Russia invaded a sovereign nation, coups are rejected by AU policies. Pull up your socks, your bias is too open to be hidden.

    • It was truly no coincidence. But you can only draw assumptions once you know what was happening in Uganda hence Museveni’s absence

  6. Philip mogona

This completely summarises the hypocrisy of mr ruto

  7. Munuhe Njogu

He is one hell of a charlatan. Utterly incompetent and corrupt

    • Dennis

Oddly enough. Kenyan presidents have never been known to be real pan africanists. Such matters do not often feature well even during the campaigns.
If you look at Kenyas five presidents one would hardly find any measurable commitments to real panafricanism.
As young man with a lot zeal and energy i understand that he would want his place in the world stage but Kenyas politics is often marked with inconsistent foreign policies that often clash.
President Ruto will certainly not be the last president to double speak on many issues if one understands the geopolitics and economic ties Kenya has. He is just the most vocal others just preferred to shut up.

  8. Tobias Nande Nandjigwa

What a stark contrast! Bravo to this Pan African writer. Can you continue to research more on NATO Africa Command office within OAU headquarter in Addis Ababa. It is the likes of this two faced Rutos that the Lumumbas of these days will be easily slained since the siepent are inside arleady.

  9. Chrisogonas Odhiambo

I cannot agree more, and I have held this same position for a long time. I knew Ruto was FAKE from the word go and he was a clear stooge and Trojan of the West. We MUST call him out for who he is. Ruto is a prefect of the West, feathering their nest while pretending to be a panafricanist. VIVA Afrika!

  10. Bish

Welcome to hypocritical reality Kenyans face daily from this fake and plain pan africanist

  11. Milton Mnoma

He is a big liar even here in Kenya we are tired of that conman.

    • Filipe

Wueh, can somebody send these replies to him, Kenyans are tired of this conman for sure, the tragedy is when he thinks everybody is fake like him, a man with zero principles, he stands for nothing except his ego and stomach.

    • James Mambo

Ruto is a very power hungry man, who just cares only about himself and will do and say everything to make it happen, he has been known to lie in most cases even inside a church. The problem is most Africans believe him and afraid to call him out. A few years back in Kenya he was voted in a polls as the most corrupt politician in Kenya but somr Africans still think being corrupt is being smart. Then in another 50 years we’re still asking why Africa is still third world. The real Pan-Africanists are normally plotted and eliminated by the west. Anytime you hear or see an African leader being praised by the west, know that he’s working for them not Africans. Magufuli was a true African leader but how he went, God knows. Ruto is NOT A PAN-AFRICANIST.

  12. Jo

Very biased article full of half truths obviously meant for sensationalism or fanatism. Shallow at best!

    • Tito Amako

Very true. The writer has missed Ruto’s point. His claims are superficial and lack substance. Ruto is fighting for equality and not that Africa sidelines itself. In the international arena we need one another but we also depend on our unity and resources as a bargaining tool which is what Ruto is pushing for. If we think PanAfricanism is pushing out of Africa all whites we have the case of Zimbabwe to learn from

  13. Osagyefo

As a Ugandan and Masharikan, I am absolutely angry, disappointed and hurt by HE Rutto, banning maize, milk, and our exports without proper procedure. We are supposed to be one but hapana. I even foresee Kenya rather import poultry products and corn from as far as Brazil than Uganda or within the region.

  14. I am a Kenyan and I can attest that Ruto is like that. He speaks something different every minute he gets a chance. He would rather feel he’s at the top and wants to be seen the smartest every other time. Shameless and reckless from him. He will go down in history as a one term president since 1963.

  15. Kap Kirwok

What you have described… the two faces… whilst true, could be a mislabelling. It assumes William Ruto is a dunderhead and a sellout. It’s too early to arrive at that conclusion l. Allow for the fact that he’s playing a game above your understanding. Africa is weak and still largely ‘colonised’ by competing Western and Eastern interests. What is the most effective way to ‘fight’ and ensure Africa’s interests have a chance? Part of the answer is learning an new Asymmetry. What’s that, you may ask. Well, dig deep into your history and culture. W. Ruto may be practising the wisdom of the Kalenjin/Maa people: “you cover the bull’s eye before drawing it’s blood”.

    • Peter Ochieng

Interesting observation. Only that it seems too simplistic.

  16. Melanie

That man has repeatedly broken broken our spirits with his lies, insensitivity and corruption. How can he be Pan-Africanist when he is not ‘Pan-Kenyan’? In his and his Deputy’s regime, the tribal tensions of his spiritual father Dictator Moi time have flared up again.
The police dispatched to target one tribe during anti-government protests.
People killing each other in border towns. In his own backyard, there is whispers of an informal militia killing political dissenters.

Meanwhile the economy is sliding further into hell. His corrupt appointees for whom he helped facilitate dropping of graft charges are ransacking their dockets. Industries are closing down and laying off workers.
This devil will leave us in ruins.

  17. Anti Pan Africanist African

This article is hot garbage. Africans love blaming the West for their failures but not themselves. You mention dictators who have clinged to power and those who clinged to power and you expect us to take you seriously? Go fuck yourself with this garbage. CIA and other western intelligence agencies have serious things to do than chase (mis)leaders of countries who have a gdp that is less than that of their operating budget. -10/10 (I hate Ruto too).

    • lawrence

it seems you shoved up your brain in your ass. you claim the cia has more important things to do and not chase after africa like what exactly so why did they bomb libya and gaddafi why were they invovlede in the assasination of patrice lumumba i thought africa is insignificant in their eyes and i specifically picked these two because these are not conspiracy theories but well documented historical facts also why does the US have it`s military bases over africa why are they constantly telling us to leave china and russia if those two are here to exploit us or expand influence according to you africa is insignificant so why care you then claim we always blame the west because they are part of problem they help kill pan african leaders and prop up dictators and africa is not the only place they did it

and then the irony of calling yourself an anti pan african african i doubt you are even african

  18. don

This kalenjiga demigod is messing our kenyan economy with appoinrments based on icompetence, tribal lines and ass-licking.

.we give a clarion call to all African states to chase him like a dog anytime he visits

  20. Esiokhung'ira

This is ruto for you and if you want more kindly visit Kenya and see how our economy has gone to the dogs than ever before. Ruto is a turncoat he promised free education, promised to lower the cost of living especially for the needy. It’s a shame that his tax preference is abnormal the guy is a cheat.

  21. Mon ma

Sad affair it is, poor Kenyans 😢

  22. Hannah

We see this everyday here in Kenya. He a snake in a green grass. Noone should Trust him. He says this today, tomorrow its different. We are suffering right now because of this. He is teaching his puppets how to lie to kenyans and get away with it. Kenyans we are in troubles if the world 🌎 sees what we don’t want to admit as the truth.

  23. Vincent Mokinu

This post is full of contempt and spite which might cloud the noble and good message underneath. I am Kenyan and I do admit Ruto is treacherous and cunning, that is how he got to be president. He however is no way near being a Western puppet as the post is trying to portray him. He is just good at playing people and their emotions to get what he wants, so both his fellow African leaders and the West. Not a big fan of his but yeah he is here to stay, the guy has never lost an election in his life.

  24. Avaye Kiruma

Ruto is a greedy lie with no face to show to us Kenyans, it’s important for Africa to whole heartedly reject the lunatic. He does nothing for anyone just his self interests.

  25. Linus

Well articulated masterpiece fellow pan Africanists.I can’t agree more. The son of sugoi beside being a puppet is incompetent in effecting his mandates as ahead of state. As a kenyan citizen,I believe at the right time there will be an uprising against this clueless regime. And we shall be there no matter what!!!

  26. Moscos Omollo

One has to choose either West or East – African leaders have no choice because they will forever be beggars.

  27. John

I’m happy more people are able to realize what a con Mr .Ruto is ,I’ve little to zero trust on that Man . He’s been breaking barriers with Lies and Doublespeak and sadly People have been falling for it . As of Western Puppetry ,Yes ,He’s coming huge with Amb . Meg Whitman ,We see them .

  28. Stewart

Lambert, it is impossible to understand William Ruto without completely appreciating the situation Kenya is in. In August for example, 61% of government expenditure was debt (loans, government paper etc). Out of that, only a paltry 5.7% was available for development with the rest being recurrent expenditure.
President Ruto finds himself in a situation where he needs to do almost everything at once with nothing in his pocket. He needs to excite employment, he needs to bring down inflation, he needs to overhaul his security forces, he needs to invest in hinterland neighbours for the sake of his ports. With that in mind, he’ll say anything if it gets him a free lunch or loosens the grip around his neck. So far, it looks like its working.
As we speak, Ruto has signed an almost $10 billion USD deal with the UK government to build the Nairobi Railway City. This is a new development of the Nairobi Railway hub in the CBD that will develop an entirely new business district while integrating the city’s transport. At its peak it is expected to create upwards of 30,000 jobs.
He has also signed another $4.5 Billion USD deal with the UK to build the High Grand Falls Dam project. This project is expected to create a 165 KM lake (Bigger than Lake Kariba), bring 1000 hectares of land under irrigation and provide 1,000 MWs of electricity while at it.
These two projects are already being rolled out.
He has signed a deal with an Australian company, Fortescue, for a $1 Billion USD investment in the country’s Naivasha Industrial Park for 300 MW green ammonia electricity and fertilizer plant.
He has also signed a finacing agreement with Afdb for the extension of their new railway to Malaba (Uganda border). He’s pursuing public-private partnerships (leasing) to develop the old berths of Mombasa Port and the Lamu Port and there are indications he’s courting the Chinese to build a new railway from Lamu Port to Ethiopia and South Sudan via the central town of Isiolo.
These are just a sample of the big ticket projects he has lined up and needs financing for with the understanding that once they’ve taken off the economic landscape of Kenya will be unrecognisable. All this has to happen amidst an economic climate that has has forced him to pass some very unpopular taxes back home just to stay afloat until they kick in.
With all this laid out, do you think blind Pan-Africanism will help him achieve his goals? Will Russia step in to plug the funding gap once he says something we all like but the guys with the money don’t? Will Niger be a client state of Lamu Port if he supports the junta (which probably won’t last in power)?
Sentiment won’t get Kenya to where he wants, neither will accolades from digital intellectuals and Pan Africanists. He will import ready grain from Ukraine until his irrigation projects are online and after that he’ll use the same hub to position Kenya as Africa’s grain trading hub. I may not like what he says, does or meets but I am a realist. At the end of the day if I was the president of Kenya, I wouldn’t do it any differently.

    • Larmbert Ebitu

A compelling disagreement based on reason. I appreciate. Still, it does not obviate Ruto’s glaring contradictions and hypocrisy that I here discuss.

      • Peter

What Stewart conveniently leaves out is that the same Ruto was the Deputy President for the period Kenya engaged in the overzealous borrowing spree amassing billions of corruptly obtained wealth in the process. He is definitely among the architects of the perceived and non-perceived predicaments Kenya has at the moment,

        • Stewart

That is not the subject of my interest Peter. I am not aware how your constitution works and if there’s shared responsibility in approving loans so I’ll not comment on that. What I am saying is in light of these problems, if Kenya wants to get out of them this is the exact kind of opportunisms it needs from its leader.

      • Stewart

No it doesn’t, in fact my comment highlights how he uses the same to his benefit. He is an opportunist. He’s the definition of an “interests ruled” man.

    • Peter Ochieng

This forms a major part of the economic blue print that President Ruto has in place for the country.
However, corruption is by far the biggest enemy if progress in this country, but the fight against it was unfortunately not a major concern for the current regime. If it had been, then people with murky dealings would not have been appointed to such high offices in the land.
For these plans to succeed, Ruto needs to deal with glaring corruption cases decisively, otherwise they end like many other such noble projects before, which have left Kenyans paying heavily with zero returns.

    • Daniel

Granted. Are these grants, freebies or what? Since they are loans to be paid by the Kenyan taxpayer and the bottom wretched , it depicts WSR as a conman. Why? he campaigned on the ticket of bringing down the cost of living, minding the welfare of the downtrodden, and telling us with one side of his mouth that he won’t be borrowing any dollar, while using the other side of his mouth to sweettalk the dollar barons for loans!

    • Geoffrey

You’re just another Cambridge analytical bootlicker, Bure kabisa!!

  29. Clintone

He now wants to extend presidential term limit to 7 years from current 5 years.
I am a cli ical officer but i am choosing to retire early at 29 becouse i work for taxes now. Better ddo farming and business.
Soon and very soon, change is coming.

  30. James Muchiri

Most stupid article I`ve read in a long while. Ruto is blocking Uganda milk etc? Where did you get this nonsense from? Do you know how much milk Uganda produces compared to Kenya? Ruto offering a market for Ukraine grain instead of encouraging local production in Kenya? Are you an idiot or just allergic to thinking/reading?

  31. Nganga

He is a conman, even here in Kenya he conned the hustlers

  32. While we cannot dismiss your premise altogether, I must point out that most of the cases you cite are only conjencture. It cannot be that we call for Pan-Africanism and also hail unconstitutional means to power like coups…

Ruto may be flawed, as indeed he is. A wanting leader even by our standards as Kenyan voters, but that does not mean he is all the nasty things you want the continent to believe of him.

As a reminder, in his first few years as president, Kagame had the same tag of neo-colonial errand boy on his back. Can we say the same of him now?

And by the way, your favourite Pan-Africanist or true African leaders were also in New York inking just as many deals with the West as Ruto did.

    But you write well.

    • lawrence

so niger must remain constitutional while the country is constantly exploited by foreign powers if being exploited is part of being constitutional then to hell with your constitutional order remember during colonial periods what the freedom fighters did were also unconstitutional

  33. Otim Obote

For as much as he is our president, we Kenyans dissociate with his sentiments and reasoning or lack thereof. We are not in support of him whatsoever.
What Ruto doesn’t understand,is that You do not show up
    at the table of life🍴
    and FIND 🔎meaning,
    like a delicious dish 🥙
    🪑awaiting you there.

    🤔Like a POTLUCK,
    you PREPARE the dish
    of meaning on your own
and BRING it to the table
    YOURSELF 🤲.
His affiliation to the west will be his undoing.
I ain’t gonna blame a Wolf for being one.

  34. Wa M

Spot on! There is everything wrong with Ruto’s foreign policy or lack thereof.

It would do him well to read on “puppets” of the West and how their fate has ended.

  35. john

Reading your arguments made me wonder and left me with more questions, Rules of engagement changes when you do not like a style have you ever approached him in person by booking appointments and going through with your words to seek valid explanation from him.. Jesus was crucified for us to get redemption but his teachings lives with us do not persecute ruto for your own gain i rest my argument

  36. Isaack

Kenya is very much part of the Horn.

  37. Executive Mutinda 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪

Ruto is white puppet. He must learn from Museveni

  38. KN

The writer has forgotten to highlight how the west has used him to impose LGBTQ in Kenya. How I wish it starts with His children becoming Homos.

  39. Mugo

You could be right and its your opinion. Your way of communication could have the disired effect but for me i find the article lacking africanism objectivity. We have a local proverb that says ‘even the chaser gets tired’ and so how does you unmasking him build africanism? How about you add a paragraph on how his positive charisma can be hearnessed to building the africanism. For me i believe every one has something good and bad to a certain objective. How we collect the positive leaving the negative is what matters . We have to grow with our strength

    • Fabian Obg

Does a positive charisma lower the cost of living?? Sometimes I see some of my fellow Kenyan brothers thoroughly brainwashed by these so-called politicians I wonder what went wrong. How can this man have the best interest of the local man in sincerity, if he imposes extra taxes day in and day out. These politicians don’t deserve our loyalty because we are from the same ethnic groups, it’s time we wake up and show these politicians who the real bosses are, we should control our own politics and elect only those who have the best interest of the country and the community at heart❤️. I’m making it plain ruto is a scam, a forked tongue man who has mastered the art of telling lies and contradicting himself also a puppet. Anyone who says otherwise I want him/her to show any meaningful concrete gain that the public has benefited with this government been in power for the last 1 year, none.

  40. Derrick Ouma

Thanks for writing this piece. Mr. Ruto is currently the king of double speak. He lies from Kenya to Australia. Day and night. He thinks by licking the ass of Western leaders he might be taken seriously. He is a clown to the rest of African leaders tbh. I don’t think they rank him either.

  41. FRANK OMONDI

Nonesense.President Ruto has been boldly championing the Interest of Africa like never before and in so doing,it would be very foolish to cut ties with our tormentors and i find it juvenile to dismiss President Ruto’s charm offensive on flimsy grounds like attires.

    • Daniel

  42. Td

We in Kenya who never voted for the conman know him for what he is,a snake oil salesman. As we speak,he is overseeing the worst leadership period in Kenya. He is an incorrigible liar,an irredeemably corrupt but incompetent individual.Kenya is in his devilishly tight grasp but the rest of Africa must wake up and expose him.

  43. Mugambi Mwithalii

Most people knew it, I am happy now that all the people know it as it is. Ruto is a scam.

  44. David

Ruto & wife believe in everything (almost) white, purely neo-colonised minds… maybe, best believers of evolution theory (botanist) & missionary/colonisers were had/have a right to civilize & drag us to the golden heaven while taking our land, labour (slaves) & taking our minerals (gold, diamond…). The wretched-of-the-earth mentality that needs a big liberation.

The wife believes in Everything (almost) white as superior & near to God & thinks that Christianity should be imposed to all… religion is not God. Inviting Beni Hinn pretexting prayers/blessings from God for the gobbling of millions belonging to the jobless taxpayers’ taxes/sweat/!!!!

  45. Michael

This writing have a semblance of Kenyan politics and more so African habits that for you to shine you must assassinate other peoples character. With an activist tag, i see no difference with those within our jurisdiction who we knew had been having their favorite rejected over and over. Throughout the campaign we saw through the lenses and discovered their treacherous plans. Activism as we have come to understand is not necessarily for the common good but for personal gain. Your activism is probably for personal gain and must be fronted by an invisible hand.

  46. Hasora Atawale

    What an article!
Having had a loathing for the man in Kaunda suits, I always thought he is good at gimmicks and emotion harvesting.
A year later, my opinion is vindicated as voters who swallowed his hustler bait are now crying and their MPs are busy plundering their right to be silent.
    Long live hustler

  47. Enock

Excellent piece of. Analysis. Absolutely true of the man.

  48. Paul Ngei Katuta

Talking right and walking left summarizes Ruto!

  49. AMOS

Now that’s the work of PhDs,,😂,when you think today;he thinks tomorrow

  50. Don Pierre

Damn! This is damning! Numbing too.

  51. Don Mwas

It’s good to see more people coming up with counter arguments to your facts. Now I rest assured I was always right about this man.

  52. Patrick Kiptoo

He has tried exporting his lies to international stage, but thank God he is well known as a liar.

  53. Mbuzigang

Well at least from the comments, you can delineate how convincing that man can be, the textbook definition of a liar. He has managed to brainwash his supporters who lick his ass whatever on whatever he does. A demagogue who has perfected the art of preaching water and drinking wine

  54. Eli

It is people like you who keep disrupting the unity that Africa needs. President Ruto speaks of uniting Africa, promoting each other through trade, building infrastructure and developing from our resources instead of loans. This is the future of Africa. Instead of supporting such endeavours and sentiments you are here with this article promoting doubt and division, promoting hate for the man trying to bring unity of purpose to a continent that is rich and exploited to poverty. This article is useless and whatever agenda you are playing at will fail. Shame!

  55. Singhilah

In the early 90’s, Ruto started a business whose Kalenjin named translated to English means I will move very fast and live them open mouthed. He is a hustler, playing all sides looking to his own intrest. As a president his interests is purely for himself and utmost, for Kenya.

  56. Kangogo

This is the most hateful and biased article I’ve read. All the arguments are narrowed to negative assumptions. The criticism is baseless.

    • muyaharun

Why do you sound depressed? Aren’t supposed to counter the author with solid facts instead of issuing school yard tantrums?

  57. Tum

Shallow informed article, Ruto is the current chairman of IGAD and Sudan is a member. Kenya is in the horn of Africa and has soldiers active in Somalia for 10years now who have silenced the guns alongside Ugandan forces. Being a Pan-African does not mean it’s a war between the West and the south, you can do business with principles.
I conclusion, President Ruto is a Pan-African president that can engage with agendas and not emotions.

  58. Cyprian

You did it better than I wanted to. Couched the article in the right adjectives. Indeed Ruto is a fraudster.

  59. Kiriaku wa Kinyua

There is not an iota of objectivity or reasonable research in this article. You sound like a mouthpiece of Kenyan opposition parties. Kindly give us some real facts other than assumptions and personal perceptions.

  60. Onditi

How he managed to clinch the presidency we don’t know how. At the University I studied Human sciences but I have a deeper understanding of geo-politics than our botanist president. He’s a Dr. of bitter herbs so excuse his manners..

  61. Aoife

As a Kenyan, I’ve seen how far Ruto can go & the antics he can resort to just to have his way. To those from other countries who don’t know this guy, don’t be cheated by his speeches bcoz he’s a POPULIST who’d say what you want to here but doesn’t mean it. He wowed Africans with Pan-Africanism & anti-Western sentiments, little did you know creating a rapport & pitching to emerge above other African leaders & be their pointman.
Firstly, he’s a pathetic liar who can’t pass on opportunity to do so if it benefits him. During 2022 campaigns, he was the VP but dismissed Uhuru Kenyatta, his boss’s claim that the rising fuel prices (from ksh98 to ksh134) were due to the Russia-Ukraine war & that its the over 15 Taxes by govt causing price hikes. Just one year into office, a litre now retails at ksh210 & now he’s citing the same reasons he dismissed.
He coined the “HUSTLERS” vs Dynasty narrative & promised to form a govt consisting of “Mama Mboga & Bodabodas” (market women vendors & motorcycle riders) & not even one person from the groups was appointed. Instead, appointed the rich he had labelled #dynasties & his tribesmen & women to plum govt positions.
He’s a dealmaker as long as he gets his cut. During the last regime, ALIKO DANGOTE wanted to build a Ksh25B cement processing in Kenya, which would sell a a bag at ksh370 ( exhnge rate was $1=ksh101). The guy is said to have asked DANGOTE a ksh300m bribe to allow him invest in Kenya. It’s said Aliko was so annoyed & opted out of Kenya with the deal. Nigerians, you all know how your former VP Wazir Atiku Abbubakar had dubious dealings, this is his friend & even visited him there.
The double speaking & cutting deals behind others’ backs that @Lambert talks about in this article are his traits. Believe you me, most Kenyans still see him as one of the most dishonest, tribalistic, & manipulative of its leaders. Imagine a man who pledged to lower cooking gas prices during campaigns in 2022 & when asked about it this year he said he meant “gas cylinder” prices not the gas. This shows you how SHREWD he is & always ready to use others as “means to an end”

  62. Festus

    Nice piece

  63. Sharon

This article is deep, the Western agenda is deeper than what we could envision at the moment. Progressive Pro Pan-Africa leaders need to wake up and realize that they’re cozying up with a very treacherous William Ruto.

  64. Moses Kinyanjui

The proposed deployment of Kenyan police to Haiti, without due consideration of Haiti’s sovereignty and historical significance, raises profound concerns. Haiti’s struggle for independence through the Haitian Revolution, led by figures like Toussaint Louverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines, is a testament to the indomitable spirit of those who sought freedom from slavery and oppression. The Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the United States, was intricately connected to Haiti’s history, as it offered the U.S. control over the vital Mississippi River, an essential waterway for trade and transport. Meddling in Haiti’s affairs by external forces, including Kenya, must be approached with caution, as it carries the weight of Haiti’s historical legacy as the first black republic in the world. To respect Haiti’s sovereignty and the struggles of its people, it is essential to engage in international assistance or intervention with full consideration of the nation’s rich heritage and its long-standing quest for justice and self-determination.

  65. rigi

This article is biased. However, I hope that Ruto and his handlers will learn something from it.

  66. Kuria

Well phrased! This is the best article that relates history and the present. Africa must act to liberate itself.

  67. David K. Kandie

The writer presents strong viewpoints regarding William Ruto and his political conduct, but it is crucial to adopt a more even-handed viewpoint when evaluating such claims. William Ruto holds a prominent position in Kenyan politics, a sphere where politicians routinely encounter a spectrum of examination and censure. It’s vital to acknowledge that political dynamics can be intricate, and one may not possess a comprehensive understanding of internal political processes. Therefore, it is imperative to partake in informed and constructive dialogues regarding political figures and their behaviors, taking into account the multifaceted nature of governance and global relations.

  68. Mboshokodo

A leader is just as good as his/her second in command, if you were to just have a glance at his Deputy, do you think said article would be longer or shorter? Truthful or embarrassing? If you defend this Ruto man, you deserve, at the very least, a case study

  69. Man peter

We can as well see through your mask. You are a sponsored by bitter Kenyan opposition to incite other African leaders against Ruto. If a coup d état occurs in Kenya or worse, sactions. It would be solely because of this article. Your analysis is so subjective and utterly negative. It is evident that there is more to this article than just…

  70. Nasir

This articles sums up what we have been trying to tell a section of gullible Kenyans. We are living in dangerous times as a country. This man, his almost illiterate deputy, and his clique of corrupt government officials have been playing the double speak game here for years now. Within his inner circle, its the most relied on trick. He employs double speak, diversion tactics, sideshows and I mean alot of sideshows whenever he has to address an elusive matter. He has mastered the art of creating diversions and attracting attention. This globe-trotting fake pan-africanist does not have a single solution to the problems facing the country he claims to lead, yet you will find him in podiums in the west lecturing global finance leaders on how to run their affairs. He is the biggest obstacle to any genuine efforts to conserve the environment yet he hosts the climate change summit. This man is a crook and its good that someone eventually so through his bs. What next? Sensitization. We have to let the people around the world know which kind of leader this crook is. Maybe if they can comprehend and speak then some kenyans will listen. The good president of Eritrea Mr. Afwerki called him out in the recent “climate change” event in Nairobi. We need more people to speak out about this crook, only then can you see that the west is the biggest sponsor of the problems that Africa is facing. I have always reiterated that the west funds poverty, they ensure Africa remains a mess since its only then that their interests are advanced. They rely on halfwits like this crook who are dumb and sacrilege enough to abandon their own people for a cheap price. There is reason to believe that they installed this man in power, overturning the will and the people of Kenya just to advance their imperialist agenda. The US embassy in kenya, has never been more active in kenya. They seem to be heavily involved and invested in our matters than in previous regimes. So Africa we must Rise, especially Kenya we need help, we can say no. Russia is here to help.
